water speed or sog
Hi,
does anybody know, when calculating true wind dir+speed,which speed is used: SOG or Water speed? And more, if SOG is ipad (internal) and water speed is NMEA, is the anwer still the same? In my case it is important to know, my water speed NMEA allways is what so ever... On the other hand it is not very fun allway to shut the power of lok....

In the help view (all the way to the left), there is a iBook icon. Tap on it and it'll take you to the Users manual. In the back of it there's a section describing calculations:

True Wind
NMEA True wind direction and speed is calculated from NMEA compass heading and
NMEA speed through water. In case these informations are not available, Course over ground (GPS) and Speed Over Ground (GPS) is used instead.

In general the internal GPS is shutdown if NMEA GPS information is received.
